BC Day long weekend

We kicked off BC Day long weekend with a Saturday market at the UBC Farm. The weather was gorgeous and many showed up at the farm for fresh produce and pretty flower bouquets, all grown inside the UBC Farm.

The UBC Farm market happens every Saturday during the summer from 9am to 1pm, and people usually arrive well ahead of time, lining up for fresh produce and chicken eggs. Besides from fresh produce and chicken eggs, you can spend the morning walking around the farm, admiring pretty fields filled with flowers and vegetables. Better yet, join the folks at the farm for a farm tour and see all the pretty sites inside this hidden gem that, we are doing our best to preserve from all the growing city developments for everyone to enjoy.

Happy Long Weekend!

Happy Birthday Shona!

Hehehe, this cake was supposed to be a part of a surprise birthday party for our friend Shona from Sweet Earth Photographics. I think it is always such a sweet thing when our loved ones, among all the busyness, arrange something special for a special occasion! A big cheer to Shona's husband Ryan and a big happy birthday to Shona, I hope you all enjoyed the cake!

A very special wedding indeed

This past weekend, we attended our friend Alexandra and Maddy's wedding. I met Alexandra when we were both in high school and she was one of first friends after I moved to Vancouver from England. I'm so honoured to be a part of her very special day and most importantly, to make her a cake for her big day!

The wedding took place at Alexandra's parents' house. The house was decorated beautifully throughout, everywhere you look, the decorations really reflect who Alexandra is.

To Alexandra and Maddy: Thank you for such a lovely afternoon and the bestest wishes to you both for this new chapter of your lives, we are so happy for you!

A long, overdue post

It's been a while since our last post. Our little business and personal life are both keeping me really busy and finally I've managed to steal some time to do a short post and share some "old news" with you all.

Back in February (if I recall correctly!), I was approached by the managing editor of Vancouver's own Real Weddings Magazine to participate in a feature they were doing for their 10th anniversary issue. The feature was totally down our alley, a dessert table that was to be simple, soft and romantic. For the feature, we contributed our mini bundt cakes and cake pops. Luckily, you don't have to be getting married to get your hands on some of these goodies! Our mini bundt cakes are available when we attend the farmers markets.

Until next post, stay sweet!

Bryn's 4th Birthday

Today I want to share with you some gorgeous pictures from our dear friend Shona, the owner of Sweet Earth Photographics. Back in May, while exhibiting at the EPIC EXPO, Shona told me they would be celebrating her youngest daughter Bryn's 4th birthday weeks after the expo and asked if I would be able to make Bryn a cake. Bryn had the opportunity to see my pink ruffles cake with ribbon flags at the expo, and when her mummy told her she would be getting a cake just like that for her birthday...she screamed (happy kind of scream of course!).

For little Bryn's birthday, I made a Dark Chocolate Cake with Passionfruit Buttercream for Bryn's backyard birthday party and some mini Vanilla Bean Yellow cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream topped with fresh raspberries.

Please check out Shona's blog for more amazing pictures of Bryn's Ladybug themed birthday party. I hope you will enjoy looking at them pretty pictures just as much as I did.

Vancouver Central Library's 16th Birthday

When we received an email inquiry from Vancouver's Central Library about our cake pops for the library's 16th birthday back in April we were so excited. The ladies at the library planned a party filled with lots of sweetness, literally! Bright pink and purple were the colour theme, so we made 3 different varieties of cake pops, decorated with sugar cutouts. Lots of mini cupcakes, handmade marshmallows. Thanks so much to Marya and Sophie at VPL for letting us be part of the celebration.

EP!C LOVE 2011

Good times fly. After much preparation we were off to the Vancouver Convention Center last Friday for the annual EP!C Expo. This year's wedding showcase was bigger and with more vendors exhibiting. We spent 3 days meeting show visitors and friends new and old. For this year's exhibit, we decided to do something more on the romantic side. We used a vintage dresser, distressed wooden crates and antique chairs as our canvas and fill them with simple yet elegant cakes, french macarons and cake pops and adorned them with gorgeous and fragrant peonies, field tulips, garden roses and baby's breath in vintage milk glass vases. We had a wonderful weekend and would like to thank Globe Foundation and Vancouver Sun for organizing such a great event and Liliana and the crew at Green Chair Event for putting the wedding showcase together.

Gorgeous day at the market & Happy Easter!

We couldn't have asked for a better day at the Vancouver Winter Market today! The sun was shining and lots of good friends/customers visiting. We would like to thank everyone for a great winter market season (despite our encounter with the winter snow and rain), and we look forward to the upcoming summer season. Please visit the bakery's website or the blog often for our summer schedule and locations. Happy Easter!

Chocolate sweetness

It looks like cake pops are now the treats to eat! Last week, a friend told us that even Starbucks are offering these cute little things. This week, for a very special potential client, we made some double chocolate cake pops to sample, hopefully, these little gems have made a good impression!

Valentine's Cupcakes

This year's Valentine's Day fall right after the Grassroots Wedding Fair, so I was a little short of time to create something more extravagant. Instead, I made some Dark Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Buttercream to celebrate!

Grassroots Wedding Fair 2011

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day! The past weekend, we participated at the Grassroots Wedding Fair at the Heritage Hall. This year, we decided to keep the display simple and a little girly! In addition, rather than simply giving out cake samples, we had a "Decorate Your Cupcake" table. We filled the table with yummy mini cupcakes as well as our fruit curds, sugar flowers and lots of colourful sprinkles.
